188 developed and efficiently functioning credit market influences the economic development of our entire country, therefore, it makes the topic relevant and expedient to conduct the research. To ensure the management of the bank's credit activity, the effective use of its credit potential, the formation of an optimal loan portfolio, the clear organization of the entire credit process gives the possibility of a credit policy. It determines the main directions of the credit process, the priorities, principles and objectives of a certain bank in the credit market and provides for the application of specific financial and other instruments used in the process of implementing loan agreements. The purpose of our study is to determine the credit policy of banking institutions, analyze the dynamics of the number of banks in Ukraine and their assets, study the relative indicators of profitability of banking activities, analyze the credit portfolio of banks in Ukraine by types of lending (lending to individuals and legal entities), and financial performance of banks. In the process of research, we used methods of theoretical generalization, tabular and graphical methods of analysis. Analyzing and summarizing the scientific works of scientists, the development of the banking system in recent years has been considered. A large number of banks were not able to react in time to the risks for insufficient capital, so this led to a deterioration in their financial condition and bankruptcy. Scientific novelty is determined by proposals that will contribute to the stability of the banking sector, in particular the credit market of Ukraine and through the effective management of lending activities of commercial banks. Practical significance is determined by the proposed measures that contribute to the stable development of the banking sector and ensure the effectiveness of the implementation of credit policy. Further research will focus on the study of conceptual directions of the development of the credit market of Ukraine, the search for effective means of supporting the credit policy of banks.
