The Kentucky River Basin, an area of approximately 7,000 square miles (18,100 square kilometers), is divided into five hydrologic units that drain the Eastern Coal Field, Knobs, and Bluegrass physiographic regions. Data on aquatic biological resources collected in these five units by Federal, State, and private institutions were compiled and reviewed in the investigation. The report contains qualitative assessments of biological conditions in the major streams for which data were available. Readers needing quantitative information should refer to the original publications. An extensive reference list of reports containing biological data from the Kentucky River basin is included.
