This report presents pesticide, nutrient, water-discharge, and physical-property data for the Mississippi River and some of its tributaries collected during April 1991 through September 1992. Surface-water samples were collected at eight sites. Three sites were on the Mississippi River and one each on the Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Platte (tributary to the Missouri River), and White (tributary to the Ohio River) Rivers. The samples were collected to determine the temporal and spatial distribution and mass transport of selected pesticides and nutrients, especially those associated with the production of row crops. Procedures for the collection of representative surface-water samples are described as well as the analytical methods used to determine the pesticide and nutrient concentrations. Field and laboratory quality-assurance procedures are described, and the results are presented.
