This report presents the results of a geologic examination of an area of about 700 square miles in southeastern Montana, including parts of Rosebud and Big Horn Counties. The examination was undertaken primarily to obtain the information necessary for classifying the public lands and for the proper administration of the laws relating to these lands. Data on the several coal beds were collected in detail, and observations were made on the geologic structure, stratigraphy, and physiographic development. The report is divided into two parts; the first part presents the geologic features that pertain to the whole area, and the second part is devoted to those features that pertain to the several townships.
