After the Meiji Restoration, many hydroelectric plants were made, and it accounted for 80% of the whole until high-growth period. In this study, we investigated 22 hydroelectric plants in the Chugoku region. As a result, the following findings were revealed. 1 Plan: The area of generator room is big and high-ceilinged. 2 Facade and Design: At several hydroelectric plants, we can see Western-style design such as full-centered arch window. 3 Remodeling: Electric equipment had renewed, but base plan and facade is preserved. These hydroelectric plants are valuable sample for understand modern architecture in Sanindistrict.
