JIS A 1108 (Method of test for compressive strength of concrete) was changed in 1999, allowing a much wider range of loading speeds to be used. Since there is a possibility that the wider range of loading speeds would cause the test results to be scattered compressive strengths of concrete at arbitrary loading speeds were examined. The results are as follows. 1) The value of compressive strength at the maximum loading speed (1.0N/mm/sec.) were higher by 3% or less compared with those at the basic loading speed (0.6N/mm/sec.). At the result at minimum loading speed (0.2N/mm/sec.), the value of strength were lower by 5% or less compared with those at the basic loading speed. 2) The influence of loading speed within the range of JIS A1108 on the values of modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio is small. 3) The transverse strain of the specimen increases at an early stage when the loading speed is slow.
