Several cases of pigmentary abnormalities have been documented in the herpetological literature, these abnormalities can be partial or total and are derived from the absence or presenting large concentrations of the different chromatophores (pigment cells). Here, we present the first record of melanism in the salamander Bolitoglossa rufescens in Veracruz, Mexico, this being the second case of pigmentary abnormality in the Bolitoglossa genus.
