Grain size analysis offluvial sediments: the Alvaraes formation and the terrace deposits of the Lima river basin (NW Portugal). This is a grain size study of NW Portugal Plio-Quaternary fluvial sediments. The Alvaraes Formation represents the sedimentary filling of the Alvaraes basin, which is an important non-metallic reserve (kaolin, common and special clays, special sands). The terraces deposits of the studied Lima river basin occur in the terminal section of this basin; they are terraces deposits of the Lima river and terraces deposits of its tributaries. The particle grain size measurements were obtained by: sieving the particles>62um on a RO-TAP equipment, following a V2 grade scale, and pipetting the particles<62um with Andreasen pipette. The interpretation is based on the statistical parameters, graphic mean (Mz0), inclusive graphic standard deviation (si), inclusive graphic skewness (Ski), graphic kurtosis (KG), computed following the formulas of FOLK-WARD (1957), and on the CM diagrams (PASSEGA 1957).
