The removal of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) from contaminated soil using sepiolite-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron was investigated. The experimental results indicated that the removal efficiency of BDE-209 from soil was greater than that of the nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI). The removal efficiency of BDE-209 from soil increased with increasing dosage of sepiolite-supported nZVI particles and decreasing pH. Adsorption on sepiolite-supported nZVI also played a role in the removal of BDE-209 from soil. This study indicated that the sepiolite-supported nZVI particles had potential applications in remediation polybrominateddiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) contaminated soil.
