Indonesia as an archipelagic state has the obligation to regulate archipelagic sea-lanes (ASL) in accordance with Article 53 UNCLOS 1982 and the rights to determine the rights and obligations of ships passing through the ASLs in Indonesia that has been set. The opening of North-South ASL in Indonesia has not met the needs of the international community as the EastWest ASL in Indonesia has not yet been opened. This paper raises the issue upon the urgency of the opening of the East-West ASL in Indonesia.
