The purpose of this study is to describe the history and development, as well as the form of Sundanese slang in the South Nagrak Village, Sukabumi Regency. The data were slang utterances obtained through observation and interviews of four participants. Drawing on Danandjaja’s folklore theory, it was revealed that the slang can be traced back to 1960’s where the Sundanese speakers in the village used the colloquial form of the language by inverting the syllables of some words. In its development, this slang is increasingly widespread in its use and has an important function in strengthening the identity of the Sundanese in the area. The form of slang is obtained from several patterns, ranging from simple patterns to complex. These findings indicate the resilience of Sundanese language and its important function for the villagers. Keywords—slang language; folklore; Sundanese language; Sukabumi District
