KEYWORD: Simulation Ground Motion, Empirical Green Function, PGA, Fourier spectrum. ABSTRACT: Near-field strong ground is the main factor that causes serious damage when large earthquake occurred. It is very important to put the predicted ground motion into disaster prevention and aseismatic design. We use empirical green function method to simulate the Kumamoto MJMA7.3 earthquake, in Kyushu, Japan. This method chose an appropriate aftershock as green function. Stacking the green function composes the main earthquake time histories according to a sort of rupture pattern. We simulated and compared 47 stations’ observed data and synthetic data, such as time-histories, Fourier spectrum, PGA distribution characteristic. Conclusions show that simulated results is good enough to reflect ground motion’s distribution characteristic in which epicenter distance is less than 50km. The synthetic peak value of time history and duration is in a good coincidence with observed peak value. Fourier spectrum fit better in high frequency which bandwidth is from 1Hz to 15Hz. The distribution characteristic of PGA also has a high similarity. PGA in near-field attenuates radically all around with ellipse shape. There is also an abnormal phenomenon that the simulated result of station FKO015 is larger than observed data.
