This paper is designed to analyze, in depth, the function of motivation in autonomous second language learning contexts. A questionnaire survey about motivation is conducted in 120 third-year students in Beijing Wuzi University in terms of internal motivation, external motivation, attribution and autonomous learning methods. The results showed that there is a high-correlation between learning motivation and autonomous learning outcomes. Index Terms - L2 learning, autonomy, motivation
