The subject of this paper is an analysis of the development ofactivities at the European as well as the Asian market ofmergers and acquisitions (M&A). Causes of mergers andacquisitions and their development mainly in the period afterthe financial and economic world crisis are examined. A partialstudy focused on the merger market in the Czech Republic. Theanalysis results show that numbers of implemented M&Aactivities in the Asian market had a similar extent as those inthe USA in 2005–2013. The motivations for the activities in M&Amarkets change in dependence on the development tendencies ofthe world economy, politics, continuing liberalization ofinvestment regimes, and implementation of theinternationalization strategy on a large scale. The results ofour study confirmed the hypothesis that the main motive was theattainment of microeconomic advantages of the merging entities.
