On the basis of analyzing the panoramas of St. Petersburg of Peter's time, this paper gives the town-planning characteristic of the city’s central space — the waters of the Neva against Peter and Paul fortress. The character of the spatiality of Petersburg of Peter's time gives grounds for the stylistic evaluation of the city as the work of Baroque townplanning art. However, in the urban composition of St. Petersburg it is not the monarch's Palace, to which traditionally for Baroque architecture, the power lines go, but the central urban space, to which all the objects personifying the monarch's presence are turned.
