The objective of the current work was to develop a simple predictive model of the spread of the novel coronavirus (i.e., 2019-nCoV or SARS-CoV-2) in the United States. The intent was to develop a simple, fast running model that could be used to make predictions regarding the effectiveness of various public policy proposals to mitigate or contain the spread of the virus. In the US, various states have adopted a patchwork of different strategies to manage the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. The model can be used to predict medical resource needs to support comparison of possible strategies and forecast consequences in terms of virus-caused casualties.
