Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the histologicalappearance of testis, epididymis, prostate and seminal vesicles of ramlambs immunized against gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH). Methods: The study was performed on 14 male lambs, 7 in the studygroup and the other 7 in the control group. Another 5 lambs wereincluded from the study after biopsy samples were taken from theirtestes at age 10 weeks to determine testicular histology at the startof the study. Seven male lambs aged 10 weeks were immunized againstGnRH using a recombinant GnRH fusion protein vaccine. The immunizationwas repeated twice monthly until slaughter at 9 months of age. Testesand epididymis biopsies were taken at the 6th month. After slaughter,testis, epididymis, prostate and seminal vesicles were extracted forhistopathological investigation. Results: At the 6th month and atslaughter histopathology of all the sex glands, most evidently in thetestes, indicated secondary infertility. In the study group, tubulediameter decreased and spermatogenetic activity disappeared. The ballof sperm cells seen in the epididymis tubules of the control group atthe 9th month was not seen in the study group. Changes in prostatetissues between the study and control groups were not evident butstromal tissue in the seminal vesicles increased in the study group. Conclusion: In conclusion, the histomorphological changes showed thatrecombinant GnRH fusion proteins provided immune castration in malelambs when used at an early age.
