A traumatic macular hole following blunt trauma is not a rare event in childhood. In such cases, early surgery is often recommended.We present the case of a 12-year-old child who suffered from an eye injury with a soccer ball. He was observed at Hospital CUF Descobertas with a decrease in best corrected visual acuity to 1/10. On fundoscopy a traumatic macular hole was observed and documented by optical coherence tomography.A weekly follow-up was carried out. After a period of initial worsening, a morphological and functional improvement was observed, and spontaneous closure of the traumatic macular hole was seen by the end of the fourth month.Waiting for a spontaneous closure of a traumatic macular hole in pediatric ages should be considered, providing a close follow up.
