Bellucia dichotoma is popularly knownledge as Goiaba-de-anta and has been used by folk medicine as antiophidic pharm. This work aims to carry out the chemical characterization and to evaluate antioxidant capacity of crude extracts of this fruit. The methodology was realized using maceration techniques to extract. Phytochemical prospecting, thin layer chromatographic characterization (TLC) and qualitative antioxidant activity were performed. Thin Layer Chromatography using different elution solvents as eluent, hexane and ethyl acetate (7:3) for nonpolar substances, and chloroform and methanol (9: 1) for polar, allowed the separation of substances revealed with UV light 254nm and 366nm and by sulfuric vanillin and Retention Factors (RFs) were obtained. In antioxidant activity analysis with free radical DPPH, a positive result was observed for the extract in methanol. Through phytochemical prospecting, secondary metabolic agents such as anthocyanidins, chalcones, leucoanthocyanidins and catechins were detected. Results indicates that the fruit has great nutritional and therapeutic potential, stimulating future research for quantification of chemical constituents and a deeper understanding of biological activity.
