According to the definitions of parsing in linguistic lexicons the term is generally defined as ‘breaking sentence down into its constituents’, ‘syntactic analysis of sentence’ or ‘structure analysis of sentence’ etc. The primary purpose of parsing is, in the traditional view, to analyze and understand the sentence structure in Western classical languages, above all in Latin and Greek. Based on its traditional use the parsing is primarily, up to now, utilized in investigating similarities and differences between natural languages and in foreign language education. But recently the application areas of parsing is much expanding. In the last half of the 20th century the parsing is going beyond the pure research fields dealing with structure analysis of sentences in human languages to the applied research fields which aims to make machines or computers understand human languages.
