The article is a result of the author’s own sociological research conducted among the Poles in Austria. The article presents a social and demographic profile of a Polish migrant. This has been changing according to the year when the migration took place. According to this factor, there are 4 categories of Poles in Austria: pioneers of the modern emigration, i.e. those who left Poland before the marshal law (category before 1981), marshal law migrants, who left Poland durig the marshal law or later but before the system transformation (in 1988), the third category called freedomers, are those who left Poland between the year of transformation and the year of the accession of Poland to the European Union (1989-2003), and finally the last category of the latest EU migrants, who are the people who left Poland after the accession of Poland to the European Union, until the years the research was conducted (2004-2010).
