The purpose of the publication is to investigate with an SME. In the first part their will be general characteristics and also the situation of this sector in Poland, against the background of other EU countries. Questions were asked about the factors that could influence the economic development of SMEs. Modern economics refers to such factors as innovation and human capital. These two factors examined in terms of the further development of SMEs. Critical literature analysis, industry reports were used in the preparation of the article, also were based on observations of practice, own experiences and thoughts.
