調査対象の母数が小さいことから,得られた結果の統 計的な限界はあるものの,本研究により明らかとなった 結果は以下のようにまとめることができる。 (1) 西古見集落には,全戸数の 25.8%を占める 24 軒の サンゴの石垣が現存したが,そのうち 15 軒(62.5%) が空き家であった。 (2) サンゴの石垣付近は風通しがよく木陰もあること から,居住者がベンチに腰掛け,会話等をしている 姿が多く観察された。 (3) ほとんどの居住者は現存するサンゴの石垣をこれ からも残していきたいと考えていた。 (4) ガジュマルとサンゴの石垣のある景観の評価が高 く,ほぼ全ての住民が「非常に好き」と回答した。 一方で,著しい人口減少と高齢化が進む中で空き家も 増加し,サンゴの石垣の維持管理が大きな課題となって いる。西古見集落では「ふるさとサポート募金会」の取 り組みが,いわば現代的な「ユイワク」を形成し,維持 管理の課題を緩和させることが期待される。しかし,そ れも資金的な面を支えるのみであり,サンゴの石垣の維 持管理を行う体制や人材の確保,技術の継承などが問題 となる。この点については,今後の検討課題としたい。
