Principal components are analyzed and carried out by eleven parts of body measurements of the cow in Japanese Black and Holstein cattle. The data are obtained from the Okinawa Animal Show in 1988 and 1989. In Japanese Black and Holstein cattle, thefirst, second and third principal components were 68.7%, 12.8% and 8.4%, respectively. The first principal component reflected to the size factor for the body frame, the second one to the shape factor for the rump and the front quarters, and the third one to the shape factor for the body hight and length. The scores of the first principal component was small in heifer of two breeds, and was large in dairy cow. The second one was the smallest in the beef steer, and was the largest in the dairy cow. The third one was the smallest in the beef cattle, and was the largest in the dairy cattle. Present paper shows that old beef cattle has alarge rump, poor front quarter, short body length and a long hind quarter, and also dairy cattle usually has a large rump, and a poor front quarter.
