Salinity stress as a major environmental factor negatively impacts plant productivity. A wide range of adaptation strategies is required to overcome this stress. An alternative strategy could be exogenous application of plant growth regulators. The present study was carried out to study the effect of seed pretreatment with salicylic acid on some growth parameters, volatile compounds and antioxidant activity of salt-stressed two genotypes of okra plant. The results of this study showed that the salicylic acid is a valuable biological plant growth regulator that could enhance salt tolerance in okra plant under 50, 100, 150, and 200 mM NaCl levels resulting in an increase in plant growth and antioxidant enzymes activities, when compared with the NaCl-treated control groups. Therefore, salicylic acid is a promising tool to improve plant growth and quality under harsh environmental conditions.
