The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the microleakage of resin cements light-activated by halogen lamp and LED (light-emitting diode). Class V standardized cavities (2x2x4mm) were prepared on buccal surfaces of forty bovine incisive teeth with occlusal margin on enamel and gingival margin on dentin. The teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n=10) according to the experimental resin cement protocols – G1: self-etching resin cement Bistite II DC (J. Morita) + light-activation with halogen lamp (Astralis 3, Ivoclar Vivadent – 450mW/cm2); G2: Bistite II DC + light-activation with LED (Radii, SDI Limited – 480mW/cm2); G3: Rely X ARC (3M) + halogen lamp; G4: Rely X + LED. All groups were restored with ceramic inlays, termocycled and immersed in a 50% nitrate silver tracer solution (8h). The samples were longitudinally sectioned and evaluated by three examiners. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney statistical tests (p<0.05) revealed that, at enamel margins, there were no significant differences between groups (p=0.317). At dentin margins there were statistical differences between resin cements. Self-etching resin cement presented lower microleakage degree. The degree of microleakage was influenced by performance of resin cement and there was no influence of different light curing units. descriptors: Dental leakage – Resin cements – Dental porcelain.
