CONTEXT: Obesity is a chronic disease that constitutes a public health problem worldwide. OBJECTIVE: to determine the prevalence of overweight, obesity and central adiposity as cardiometabolic risk factors in Bayas Parish 2019. STUDY DESIGN: a quantitative investigation was conducted with a descriptive, cross-sectional study. METHODOLOGY: The present investigation included a non-probabilistic sample for representative convenience of 347 inhabitants of both sexes and ages between 20 and 64 years. Overweight, obesity and abdominal obesity were classified according to the criteria of the World Health Organization. RESULTS: 66% of the population were unde 45 years old. 55.9% were women and 44.1% men. 48.7% were overweight, 18.4% obese and 76.4% central adiposity. Overweight and obesity were more prevalent in women than in men (70.1% vs. 63.3% respectively) and the most prevalent age group was between 45-54 years with 84.2% women and 83.3% men. Central adiposity was more prevalent in women than in men (87.1% vs. 62.7% respectively) and the age group with the highest prevalence was between 45-54 years with 78.9% men and 97.6% women. Central adiposity was present in 44.7% of respondents with normal body mass index, in 89.3% of overweight people and in 98.4% of obese participants. CONCLUSIONS: This study, it has allowed to obtain real data regarding the prevalence of overweight, obesity and central adiposity, risk factors that have become a true Public Health problem; these results will serve to establish health policies aimed at promoting their prevention and development of comorbidities.
