La biografia historica, como recurso metodologico e historiografico, ha sido desestimada y recuperada en multitud de ocasiones. No obstante, su combinacion con el microanalisis y la microhistoria la convierten actualmente en un instrumento valido para la investigacion. En Argentina, la historiografia reciente la ha empleado tanto directamente como a manera de complemento de otras formas de aproximarse al pasado. Esto ha ocurrido en particular con la compleja transicion experimentada en el sur del continente americano entre los siglos XVIII y XIX.
