This paper presents the procedure we have used to improve the teamwork learning activities in the first year of the bachelor's degree. The focus was placed on the basic teamwork skills and attitudes that should be developed by students at the beginning of their university studies. We propose that the initial teamwork training is oriented towards solving two problems: the responsibility of teammates and the effective implementation of a work plan. We analyse the point of view of the student about factors and behaviours that teamwork competence definition suggests as more appropriate to address them. Moreover, we make a certain number of recommendations for the teamwork instructional design based on the findings of this study.
