This article has as its background the debate about the existence of a cosmopolitan society and the consequent inadequacy of the current political models, which are still based on the power exercised by the Nations-States. For the authors who support this statement, Nation-States are no longer able to meet the demands of an increasingly globalized society, and for this reason a reform of traditional political institutions is necessary, aiming at the formation of a real "global governance". In this sense, the article presents the ideas of some of these authors, such as Ulrich Beck, Anthony Giddens, Michael Hardt, Antonio Negri and Nancy Fraser.
