Traffic management systems are generally used in view of reducing heavy traffic and to increase its safety. Recently, however, there has been an increase of interest for the effect of these systems on the exhaust of the vehicles and pollution. There are two main objectives in this sense: in the cases where a function of the traffic management system approaches safety issues of heavy traffic, the respective function should be thus designed as to avoid emission increase. special systems could be designed to reduce emissions. Within a rather complex process, the design and optimization of low pollution traffic management systems is based on the understanding of several bonds, since the management system in itself does not directly affect the emission rates.
