Danau Sentani sebagai ikon Kota Jayapura mempunyai peran penting, baik secara ekonomi maupun ekologi. Sayang sekali, danau ini telah mengalami pencemaran dan pendangkalan karena sedimentasi. Kualitas air menjadi semakin buruk dari waktu ke waktu. Sampah berceceran di tepian Danau Sentani. Danau Sentani berubah menjadi seperti tempat sampah raksasa. Salah satu faktor utama yang menyebabkan terjadinya kerusakan ini adalah penggundulan hutan di sekitar Gunung Siklop. Sebagai daerah hulu dan sumber mata air, Gunung Siklop harus dijaga kelestariannya. Tulisan ini mencoba untuk memberikan sebuah tawaran tentang cara baru pemeliharaan lingkungan melalui revitalisasi mitos. Kita bisa mempelajari identitas, jalan hidup, keyakinan, nilai, dan budaya suatu masyarakat dari mitos. Abstract: Sentani Lake as an icon of Jayapura has an important role both economically and ecologically. Unfortunately, the lake has been polluted and become shallow due to sedimentation. The water quality of this lake getting worse  from time to time. Domestic garbage is scattered on the side of the lake. It seems that Sentani Lake has changed to be a giant garbage dump. One major factor causing this condition is the deforestation of cycloop mountain. As an upstream and re- source of water, Cycloop mountain should be protected from the destruction. This paper tries to offer a new way of treating environment through revitalization of myth. As a product of oral tradi- tion, we could learn about the identity, way of life, belief, value, and culture of such a community from myth.
