The pericarp of Garcinia rubra, an endemic Garcinia species in the Philippines was extracted with dichloromethane. An isolate of the extract was acetylated giving monoacetyl and diacetyl derivatives. Analysis of these derivatives led to the elucidation of the xanthone 1,3,7-trihydroxy-2,4-bis(3-methylbut-2enyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one. The compound was isolated and characterized through column chromatography, acetylation, FTIR, NMR and LCMS analyses.
