Congenital syphilis is a disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, transmitted from the mother to the fetus at any time during pregnancy or during delivery. Knowledge of the clinical and epidemiological profile of syphilis cases contributes to the planning of health services and the better targeting of public investments for prevention and treatment. Objective: to describe the incidence rates and characterize the epidemiological profile of SC cases registered in Brazil between the years 2007 and 2016. Method: This is a descriptive study of time series, in which data from the National System were analyzed of Live Births and National System of Diseases and Notifications regarding the occurrence of congenital syphilis in Brazil between the years 2007 to 2016. Results: Brazil presented an annual average of 13 thousand registered cases of congenital syphilis, presenting a linear increase over the years. years. The highest incidence rates were observed in 2014 (6.56), 2015 (7.91) and 2016 (8.78). From 2010, there was a linear and expressive increase in the incidence rate in all regions. In 2007, the rate in the North region was higher than the other regions, reaching a peak of 2.33 / 1,000 inhabitants, while the South region had a rate of only 0.99 / 1,000 inhabitants. The increase in the Northeast followed the Southeast until 2015 and in 2016 showed a slight decline. Conclusions: The data is alarming and shows the need to adopt or reformulate health policies aimed at tracking, preventing and treating diagnosed cases.
