Hitherto numerous studies have been reported in which enviro. mental conditions were changed by various means and the resultant alterations of various organs of animals were observed morphologically or histochemically. Nozaka (1927) described histological changes of mouse liver caused by the change of atmospheric temperature. Mac Card le (1937) rapidly changed the water temperature, and observed the resulting change of liver cells of Fundulus heteroclitis histologically. These changes have not been attempted to observe cytochemically. The author changed the water temperature, and observed the resulted change of activities of alkaline and acid phosphatase in liver cells of an osseous fish.
