Recently, in the field of biotechnology and genetic engneering, research and development of new micropocessing and mmicrosurgery systems for living biological cells are strongly desired. From this point of view, we are trying to develop precise microprocessing system using an ultraviolet excimer laser, in which the microscope stage is controlled two-demensionally with the resolution of 1 um or smaller by means of piezoelectronic motors. In order to obtain the basic data of cell laser-microprocessing , we measureed the suvial rate and growth rate of mouse's fibroblast cells which were microirradiated by UV-laser light in the region of those nuclei, this irradiation condition of UV-laser output were the wavelength of 355nm(excimer-laser excited dye-laser), the pulse width of 17ns and the pot diameter of 2 ƒÊm. We confirmed experimentally that as the number of irradiated laser pulses increases, the survival rate of the irradiated cells with the pulse energy of 1 AlJ decreases, but it was almost independent on the laser pulse repetition rate. Moreover, it observed that the growth rate of the irradiated cells under the condition of the pulse energy of 1 ƒÊ J, the number of irradiated pulses of 500 and the repetition rate of 100 Hz did show little change untill 24 hours after the irradiation, while nonirradiated cells revealed the growth rate change with a cell cycle of about 18 hours.
