A method that provides objective and quantitative evaluation about stability of vulnerable plaques is required. In this study, we focused on the near-infrared multispectral imaging (NIR-MSI). The NIR-MSI can obtain the spatial and spectroscopic information of plaques simultaneously by combining with an angioscopy. The objective of this study is the development of NIR multispectral angiosope using at wavelengths around 1200 nm. In order to evaluate the developed angioscope, atherosclerotic plaque phantoms were measured. As a result, the simulated plaque area that could be not detected with the angioscopic visible image was emphatically observed. In addition, atherosclerotic plaque phantoms were observed under 11 mm saline layer. A multispectral angioscope at wavelengths around 1200 nm have a potential to identify atherosclerotic plaques in saline infusion.
