Currently aluminum casting in small industries uses a lot of used aluminum base material. This research was carried out using aluminum base brake shoes. Variations in the addition of manganese (Mn) are carried out during melting (remelting). Manganese is added with 3 different compositions namely 0.5% Wt, 1% Wt, and 1.2% Wt. The results of the remelting material were tested for hardness and microstructure was observed to determine the effect of adding manganese. The results showed that the addition of manganese up to 1% Wt reduced the hardness, but the addition of increase increased in the addition of 1.2% Wt manganese. In the remelting material, it shows that the porosity caused by manganese does not fill empty spaces in the microstructure.
