トマトに対し, 7075%の遮光処理を行い, 生育, 光合成機能, 同化産物分配に現れる影響を調査した.14週間の遮光によって, 作物の乾物重には花房で最大約30%, 茎葉で3040%, 根で50%程度の減少がみられた.遮光作物の葉は光合成機能が弱光下では若干高まるものの, 光飽和点や最大光合成速度が低下する陰葉化の傾向を示した.同化産物の分配パターンについては, 遮光によって根への分配率が低下し, 花房への分配率が無処理と同等以上になった.茎葉部への分配率は果実肥大が始まるまでは遮光によって増加し, 肥大開始後は減少した.遮光処理を中止すると, 1週後には葉の光合成機能や乾物重は無処理に近づく傾向がみられたが, 根の乾物重に関してはその程度が地上部より低く, 根の生育の回復が地上部のそれに比べて遅いことが示唆された.
