S市 水道では,1972年11月 初旬 よ り一部地域でカビ臭 い とい う苦情が あ り,次 第にその声が大 き くな った。 そ こで当局 では,排 水作業を行 な って配水管内の滞留 水を捨てた り,配 水 タ ンクの洗浄 ・消毒を行な った りし たが ほとん ど効果 がなか った。そ こで,さ らに滞留時間 を短縮す るために配 水タ ンクの使用を止め,送 水管 と配 水 管 とを直結 し,か つ各排泥弁 よ り臭気がな くなるまで 排 水を行 なった ところ,ほ とん ど臭気を感 じ な く なっ た。 しか し1週 間ほ どで再 び臭気を感ず るよ うになった ので,前 回と同様 に排水を行ない,各 排水地点 とも残留 塩素が0.3~0.1ppm検 出するまで,管 内の水を捨てた。 それで も臭気 は一時 的に弱 くなるだけで障害 は依然 と して解消 しなか った。次 に臭気を感 じ始 める地点が金山 部落~奥条橋の間である ことか ら,こ こを避 けるバ イパ スを仮配管 したが これ も効果 はなか った。
