Objective: The aim of this study is to identifythe craniofacial changes of long termuse of Mandibular Advancement Devices(MAD) for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)treatment trough a systematic review of theliterature.Materials and methods: A systematicreview was performed assessing the followingelectronic databases: PubMed,EBSCOhost, The Cochrane Library andEMBASE, between January 2000 andMay 2014, human studies and englishlanguage. Inclusion and exclusion criteriawere applied to the results. Selectedarticles were evaluated with the use of aninternational check list related to the typeof the study (CONSORT). A classificationof the level of evidence and the degree ofrecommendation were performed troughthe SORT strategy.Results: 1383 articles were identified afterthe initial search. After applying the criteriaselection and complete the check list selected(CONSORT) only 1 study fulfilled theinclusion criteria. A classification of thelevel of evidence and grade of recommendationwere performed by using the SORTstrategy to the selected article.Conclusions: No enough body of evidencewere found in this study to identify thecraniofacial changes with the long term useof Mandibular Advancement Devices forthe treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.Keywords: Mandibular advancement devices,obstructive sleep apnea, craniofacialchanges.
