Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of vitamin B12 and various antibiotics on growth of chicks. Four groups which were divided into eight lots, each consisting of 20 newly hatched White Leghorn male chicks were kept in wirefloored battery brooders and treated as shown in Table 2. Penicillin G potassium, Streptomycin hydrochloride and calcium chloride complex and Terramycin hydrochloride, were fed respectively at a level of 25mg per kg of diet, and vitamin B12 was fed at a level of 30mc g per kg of diet. The chicks were weighed individually at weekly intervals for 6 weeks. The average body weight gains of each lot were shown in Table 3.The feeding of vitamin B12 had no effect upon the growth of young chicks, whose mother-hens had been fed on fish meal enough. This fact indicates that the vitamin B12 is carried over from layig hens to their baby chicks in such amount to meet their requirements of vitamin B12 for growth during about 6 weeks if the hens received diet rich in vitamin B12.The highly significant difference of body weight gains were observed between three antibiotic groups and the control group; Penicillin was the most effective in stimulating the growth of chicks, and followed by Terramycin and Streptomycin.
