Recently, the genus Zingiber comprises about 144 species mainly distributed in the tropics, there were 34Zingiber species recorded in Vietnam. In this paper, we reported Zingiber nitens M.F. Mewman newly recorded for the flora of Vietnam. Voucher specimens were collected in Nghe An province (Pu Mat National Park: Khe Kem, Khe Bu, Chau Khe; Pu Huong: Binh Chuan, Nga My; Pu Hoat: Hanh Dich; Ky Son: Nam Can, Na Ngoi) and Ha Tinh (Vu Quang Natopnal Park: Doc De; Huong Son district: Sơn Kim I), deposited in the Herbarium of the Biology Vinh University and herbarium of Vietnam Museum National (VNMN). Clump-forming herb 0.65–1.5 m tall. Rhizomec. 1 -1,2 cm in diameter; ligule 3–5 mm, translucent green when young. Leaf blade narrowly elliptic, 18–25 × 2–3 cm, glabrous and shiny adaxially. Inflorescencea terminal, erect thyrse, 9–13 × 1.3–2 cm, cylindrical to fusiform, composed of 9–15 bracts. Bracts subtending to 3–4 flowers, c. 3.5cm × 3.3 cm, glossy, dark green, glabrous, surface with minute oil glands, apex acute, margin translucent. First flower of cincinnus ebracteolate, subsequent flowers with a boat-shaped bracteole, open to base, c. 20 × 6.5 mm, translucent at base. Calyx 1.3–1.6 × 0.4 cm, tubular, translucent, glabrous, split halfway down one side, apex with 2 short. Petal, white at base, pale yellow at apex, lobes pale yellow, glabrous, 1.9–2.1 × 0.6 cm, labellum elliptic, c. 1.8 × 1.1–1.25 cm, dark maroon with small yellow dots and yellow patch in throat. Stamen: filament 0.25– 0.3 × 0.3 mm long, yellow; anther c. 0.11 × 4 mm; anther crest 9–10 mm long. Stylewhite, glabrous, stigma white, round, scarcely wider than style; ovary cylindrical, c. 3.5 × 2.5 mm, glabrous. Capsule triangle, c. 1,5x 1 cm.
