The paper describes the main design decisions made in the design and development of an electric snowmobile for use in sensitive extreme environments. The instrumented snowmobile will serve as a test bed for vehicle performance monitoring under different conditions (cold and colder). Performance data gathered will be used to develop and validate power train models for this class of vehicles. The current configuration illustrates performance capabilities needed to satisfy light utility applications. Future effort will address the evolution to hybrid electric power train.
