Cluster Analysis of Restricted Range of Motion of the Joint and Scoliosis in the Severely Mentally and Physically Handicapped Usamu NITTA,* Kan NOMURA,** Hiroshi SAITOU,* Ken YANAGISAWA* Abstract; Restricted range of motion (RUM) of the extremities and Scoliosis of the severely mentally and physically handicapped were classified into three groups by clauster analysis. Discriminant analysis using these groups as object variable revealed three related items which distinguished a group with mild restriction of ROM of the extremities and scoliosis from a group with severe restriction and Scoliosis; 1) spastic motor paralysis, 2) asymmetric tonic neck reflexes, and 3) sideway prachute reaction. Restricted RUM of the joint and scoliosis can reach degrees of marked severity in spastic motor paralysis and positive asymmetric tonic neck reflexes, and there was a slight possibility that restriction would progress with the positive sideway prachute reaction.
