スギおよびラワン材の粉末を毎秒30℃の昇温速度で5001000℃まで加熱して熱分解を行い熱分解ガスの組成と残渣であるチャーの生成量の変化を調べた。チャーの収率は熱分解温度にほとんど依存せずスギラワンとも概ね10 wt程度であった。H2COCO2 およびC2 以下の炭化水素ガス成分の総収量は熱分解温度と共に増加する傾向を示しこれらの低分子ガスに占める水素ガス含有率は1000℃においてはスギが28 molラワンが19 molであった。さらにガス収率の向上を目的としてゼオライト活性アルミナカオリンの3種を熱分解触媒として使用した。スギにはカオリンがラワンには活性アルミナが水素と一酸化炭素の生成に有効で1000℃における水素発生量はスギで1.7倍ラワンで3.2倍の増加となった。
