In our recent report1), we demonstrated the difference in erythrocyte (ƒÂ— aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) activity and urinary ƒÂ-—aminolevulinic acid (ALA) excretion between ddY and C57BL/6 mice strains . The level of urinary ALA excretion is a useful indicator for evaluating exposure to lead2) The concentration of ALA in the body seems to be regulated by the actions of a—aminolevulinic acid synthase (ALAS), which is one of the mitochondrial enzymes, and ALAD . The purpose of this study was to simultaneously determine hepatic ALAS and ALAD activities and to discuss these data in relation to the difference in urinary ALA excretion between ddY and C57BL/6 mice strains .
