2-Substituted chromeno[3,4-d]imidazol-4(3H)-ones have been synthesized in excellent yields by the one-pot reaction of 4-amino-3-nitrocoumarin with aliphatic acids in the presence of PPh3 and PPA under microwave irradiation. The reactions of 4-amino-3-carboxamidocoumarins (prepared from 3,4-diaminocoumarin, or in situ from 4-amino-3-nitrocoumarin and PPh3, and acids) with PPA in toluene under microwaves led also to the aforementioned compounds. Furthermore, the latter has been synthesized by the one pot reaction of 3,4diaminocoumarin with acids in the presence of PPA under MW irradiation. Preliminary biological tests indicated inhibition of soybean lipoxygenase for some of the new compounds.
