Using available thermodynamic data, a model of K partitioning between magma and plagio clase is constructed. The partition relation is dealt with in terms of the exchange reaction: (NaAISi3O8)plag+(KA1Si3O8s)magma=(NaAlSi3O8)magma+(KAlSi3O8)plag. The equilibrium condition is expressed as In K=(8630-0.7T-4130 Xab, pl)/RT, where K, T, R are partition coefficient, absolute temperature, and gas constant, respectively, and Xab, p,=Na/(Na+Ca)p,ag. This model suggests that the partition coefficient strongly depends on temperature and major element composition of plagioclase crystal. The model was applied to compositional relations of natural plagioclase groundmass pairs of a suite of calc-alkalic volcanic rocks from northeast Shikoku, and of other volcanic rocks available from literatures. The obtained temperature of crystallization of plagio clase is qualitatively in accord with the liquidus temperature of each rock type, i.e. 700-9001C for rhyolites and 1100-13001C for andesites.
