Leadership, understood as a result of the relationship between actors and their different contexts, has broad meaning for the field of public management, which also takes place through the performance of political agents. They feel compelled to seek the legitimacy of their leadership in order to guarantee their continuity as public actors. The general objective of this study was to analyze how leadership is legitimized in the life history of political agents (mayors). The research was qualitative of a descriptive and analytical character with the use of documents and interviews, associated with the life history technique with three mayors of the state of Santa Catarina awarded in the System of Indicators of Sustainable Municipal Development (SIDEMS). The Content Analysis (CA) technique was used. As research findings, it is highlighted that the association of theories of Weber, Berguer and Luckmann and Bourdieu makes it possible to understand leadership from a relational perspective, analyzing not only the individual, but the socially constructed contexts. It is believed that it is possible to develop knowledge that integrates rather than excludes and fragments, thus avoiding an uncritical vision of Leadership.
